NCIS's Pauley Perrette wants equality!

Postby LoveIsMarching » July 18th, 2010, 12:00 am

Abby Schiuto is my favorite character on NCIS. She may be straight, but she's possessed by this beautiful passion to help mankind and also happens to be a Christian! You can read the article at afterelton.com herehttp://www.afterelton.com/people/2009/8/pauleyperrette?page=0%2C0.

It is a blessing to see more straight Christians supporting gay people and our rights. I believe, when religious countries like Mexico and Argentina...and soon Costa Rica, can support gay marriage and civil unions, why can't we in the US also!

What is striking me as surprising is I have come out to a couple of my Christian friends, all of which are Southern Baptist, two being ordained Southern Baptist Convention ministers, have openly accepted it. While the SBC overall still does not accept open homosexuality in their churches, I think within the next 20-30 years I could possibly see their stance changing from asking homosexuals to leave to asking them to stay but discourage open displays of affection.

Only one who is SBC has actually had the balls to say that all of my problems were due to my sexuality. For the most part I think most in my church suspect it, but only 2 have the actual confirmation and have promised me confidentiality until I decide to openly come out on my own completely to the entire church.

I am also hoping that Prop8 will end up in the Supreme Court and I would love for it to be ruled that a ban on same-sex marriages is federally unconstitutional and all States within the Union are required to offer marital status to all same-sex couples or at least offer a recognized 'civil union' with all the same rights as a heterosexual marriage.

People look at you funny when you refer to your 'partner', but you get even crazier looks when you are a woman and refer to your spouse as your wife or your husband if you are a man.

I say it should be equal rights across the board. Homosexuality has been around for as long as the dawn of man. In Roman times it was not uncommon for the Apostle Paul to walk in downtown Rome and see same sex couples openly getting it on in public. What strikes me the most is nowhere in the four Gospels does Jesus openly speak against homosexuality. It is mentioned in Leviticus, and once in Romans and that is it as far as I know right off the top of my head.

But I am also fascinated by the close relationship between David and Jonathan as well as the story of Sodom and Gomorrah. (Ironically Jews see the story as a need for hospitality, whereas Christians see it as a punishment for homosexuality.) Funny how things get re-interpreted over time.

Granted I am probably not as versed in the gospels as you are, but I think you make some very valid points. Homosexuality HAS been in existence for a verrrrry long time. I just want to say thanks for replying and sharing your thoughts.

Aww. Your a sweetheart.

Just so you know I checked my news thingy and it said that the California appeals judge ruled in favor of same-sex marriages in California citing that it was unconstitutional and does not provide for equal rights for all law-abiding citizens. So for now, same-sex marriages are legal in California. I'm just waiting on this to get to the U.S. Supreme Court and have it ruled that a ban on same-sex marriages is federally unconstitutional.
